Beverley and Holderness Labour Party
Warm Welcome for the Queen's Speech
The Queen's Speech received a warm welcome from Labour Party members at Saturday’s meeting of the East Riding Local Government Committee. The East Riding LGC brings together members from all the constituency Labour Parties within the East Riding area.
Particularly welcome were announcements about the Personal Care Bill, the Financial Services Bill, the Flood and Water Management Bill and the bill to ban the use of Cluster bombs.
The Personal Care Bill will enable around 280,000 of the neediest people in England to get free personal care in their own homes if they wish.
This will cover basic, everyday living tasks such as getting up, dressing, washing and using the toilet. Those needing help with at least four such tasks will be eligible to receive this support from next October.
A further 130,000 people who need home care will benefit from other measures so that they can carry on living independently for as long as possible.
Big Government ???
It's not Big Government that is to blame for this country's ills (David Cameron blames big government)
It's the Big Greedy Bankers that are to blame! (not mentioned by Cameron in his speech)
It was Big Government that saved this country
- that saved your bank accounts from being worthless
- that enabled your employers to pay your wages
- that enabled you to go to Tescos and use your Credit Card.
In fact it was Big Government that prevented total chaos - both here and abroad!
Dont let anyone tell you the crisis was caused by the Public Debt.
The high Public Debt was largely caused by Bailing out the Bankers
Big Housing Boost!
Last week came the brilliant news that the Labour Housing Minister had allocated over £16 million for social housing in the East Riding.
This is the largest housing allocation in the country and enables the East Riding to spend £33 million on building 260 homes for 260 families in dire need.
