Beverley and Holderness Labour Party
What People Think
Pollsters Ipsos Mori asked voters
"In choosing between Gordon Brown, David Cameron or Nick Clegg who do you think
- Would be best in a crisis?
- Who is most capable?
- Who best understands world problems?"
Gordon Brown was top in each - 40%, 36% and 45%

David Cameron came second with 33%, 33% and 23%
Nick Clegg came last with 12%, 17% and 14%
Gordon Brown may not be the most charismatic of leaders but he has successfully dealt with crisis after crisis
Why vote for anyone else to run the country?
Cheerful Campaigning!
Over the last couple of months we have had very busy Street Stalls in Hornsea, Withernsea, Hedon and Beverley.
Prams and children were adorned with balloons and flags - mums and dads took away free bags full of leaflets
This morning we were in Beverley again giving out leaflets and posters while our candidate Ian Saunders was able to discuss Labour policies with interested people
Here some of us are chatting with the Mayor of Beverley Councillor David Elvidge

So what is really important to you?
The economy is by far the most important issue for most of us - for what happens to the economy affects what happens to you and your family.
The Labour government has prevented a recession from turning into a full scale depression.
First Gordon Brown made sure the banking system did not go bust. Then he and the Bank of England put money into the economy to help businesses survive the turmoil and keep people employed.
The combined effect was to pull us out of the recession into a very fragile recovery
The Tories objected to everyone of these important decisions
And now they want to shrink the economy not grow it!
If David Cameron becomes Prime Minister he plans to immediately take £6 billion out of the economy
If he does we will tip back into recession - it wont affect David Cameron but it will affect you and me
Family Friendly Policies ????
Dave Cameron believes in the family. But only married families are to be helped by his Tory Party
Are you a widow/er with young children?
Are you separated or divorced?
Are you a single parent for any reason?
Do you live as civil partners?
Or as a cohabiting couple?
Sorry - you will get no help from the Tories
Under the Tories only married couples will get a Tax rebate
Labour believes in helping all families

This is what your Labour government has done for you -
Sure Start in Danger!
Last year David Cameron and George Osbourne announced that a future Tory Government would cut the Sure Start budget by 20% to save approximately £200million. They have not retracted that promise to date. Because Sure Start is a ringfenced budget this would mean that 1 of the 4 centres (Beverley, Hornsea, Hedon and Withernsea) would have to close.
I have challenged Graham Stuart to say if he backs this closure by his party and, if so, which centre would he close. He has not responded.
Because I believe Sure Start to be so vital to children and parents / carers I went to London to speak directly with Diana Johnson in the House of Commons. Diana is the MP for Hull North as well as Minister for Schools at the Department for Children, Families and Schools. Diana responded very positively that if Labour form the next Government they intend to increase the current 3197 centres to 3500.
